Paul Bentley's responsibilities within the department cover a wide range, including basic mechanical engineering, electronic engineering (fault diagnosis and repair, PCB production, construction of basic electronic circuits from diagrams, etc), woodwork, metalwork, and joinery. He is the department's telephone liaison officer and the first point of contact for transport matters and also has responsibility for the fabric of the building (liaising with estates department and contractors concerning repairs and alterations).

Paul started work in the department straight after leaving school in 1976 and therefore is just about to start his 35th year of service. He enjoys a game of golf whenever he can and is a member of Tinsley Park Golf Club playing off a handicap of 15. He is supporter of Sheffield Wednesday and attends all the home games. Other interests include tenpin bowling, large jigsaws (2,000 pieces or more) and computer games.
