Working in partnership with Jean Grugel, Geography's Head of Department, Elizabeth Carr brings her considerable experience to help provide strong, strategic leadership and professional management to the the Department of Geography. As Department Manager Elizabeth's role includes management and leadership of the Professional Service team; strategic policy formulation and academic planning; budget management and financial planning; managing the operational infrastructure of the department and ensures that it supports teaching, research and administration and assists with the management of academic staff and HR issues. Elizabeth's role is full-time and based in the Geography Building in room C13b.
Biography |
Having been a manager in a commercial hospitality role since her early twenties, Elizabeth has worked in higher education since 1999 and has a BA(Hons) in History from the University of Kent and both a Diploma and an MA in Management Studies. Elizabeth has previous experience of working with the Vice-Chancellors' office, senior management teams and the governing body of two universities in the south-east of England. Before being invited to take her current role in March 2013, her previous five years were spent as a senior manager in a central support department of over 60 staff, responsible for Financial Planning, Purchasing, Staffing, Training and Induction, Administration, Licensing, Maintenance and Major Project and Tender Management. |
