Responsibilities

As Departmental Manager it is Jo's job is to manage all administrative aspects of the department in conjunction with the Head of Department, Professor Grant Bigg. This varied role includes management and leadership of all administrative, technical and support staff in the department; strategic policy formulation and academic planning; managing the department's budget and financial planning; management oversight, coordination and development of all administrative procedures relating to learning & teaching, and research; management of all non-staff resource, including estates and infrastructure; assisting with the management of academic staff and advising on personnel issues.

Jo is a member of the Departmental Executive and Infrastructure & Resources Committee. She is also a member of the Faculty of Social Sciences Administrators Group.

Biography

Jo has worked as a manager in higher education since 1999, spending eight years at the University of Leeds, before joining the University of Sheffield as Head of Administration in the School of Education in 2007. Following four happy and successful years in Education, in the summer of 2011 Jo was invited to take on a new position as Departmental Manager across the two departments of Town & Regional Planning and Geography. Being a geography graduate herself, Jo says she feels very much at home in both departments.
