Contested Spaces: Group Identities and Competing Rights in Transitioning Warsaw
Supervisors: Professor Gill Valentine, Professor Richard Phillips, Dr Tariq Jazeel
Research summary
My project is situated in Poland and addresses tensions between social groups and the ways they claim their right to occupy and take up public space in different forms. The research is based on two case studies currently played out in the Polish public sphere; a conflict around a mosque construction and a conflict around abortion. This project uses mixed qualitative methods such as focus groups, individual interviews, participant observation and media discourse analysis.
This project makes part of the LiveDifference (Living with Difference in Europe) research programme, led by Professor Gill Valentine and funded by the European Research Council.
