Dutch Year/Semester Abroad

Students of History with Dutch will spend the entire Year Abroad in the Netherlands or Flanders. Students of German with Dutch and French with Dutch will spend a semester in the Netherlands or Flanders. Other students who take Dutch at Levels Two and Three can opt to spend one semester in a Dutch-speaking country.
If you choose university study, this will be on an EU-supported ERASMUS/SOCRATES exchange, i.e. accommodation is generally provided and students are entitled to a one-off payment in Euros during their stay abroad. Alternatively, it may be possible for you a work-placement or teaching assistantship to be arranged for you.
The Department of Germanic Studies has exchange programmes with the following universities in the Netherlands:
- University of Utrecht
- University of Groningen
- Radboud University Nijmegen
and in Belgium:
- Hogeschool Universiteit Brussel

One semester spent in the Netherlands/Flanders accounts for one Year Abroad module. For more detailed information about the study requirements and enrolment procedures, please contact the Dutch Year Abroad Tutor.
