Beginners' Dutch

Your first port of call during your Dutch career will be this course for beginners. It is offered as a 40-credit Level One subject in addition to, or independent of, your German course. This course is also open to any interested Level One student within the university.
You need no previous knowledge of Dutch to take this course, but you will find that an A-Level in a Modern language is a definite advantage.
Objectives
The course aims at developing the four skills of speaking, reading, writing, and understanding everyday Dutch. The emphasis is on acquiring language patterns and vocabulary. From an early stage in the course, students are encouraged to use these patterns actively.
Course Material
The core material for the course is Taal Vitaal, which students are expected to buy at the beginning of the course from the course tutor.
Excursion to Amsterdam
A partly sponsored student trip to Amsterdam is organised in March. This is an excellent opportunity to practise your skills in a real life setting!
