Postgraduate Studies
We are concerned with teaching and research into normal interpersonal communication, communication impairment, and the remediation of communication impairment.
The department is an active teaching and learning department with a national reputation in clinical education and related professional studies.
We offer both clinical and non-clinical qualifications in four taught post-graduate programmes and a MPhil/PhD by research.
A 2 year course leading to a professional qualification in speech and language therapy.
Part-time web based programmes designed primarily for professionals working with children with special needs. It consists of distance learning modules that may be studied to the level of Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, or MSc.
A 1 year (or 2 year part-time) course for speech and language therapist, linguists and psychologists focusing on current theory, practice and research training.
A 1 year part-time course which provides the opportunity for speech and langauge therapists to develop specialist knowledge and skills in the area of cleft lip and palate and related communication impairments.
These are 1 year full-time (or 2 years part-time) courses in speech, cleft lip and palate and related impairments.
Postgraduate Certificate: 1 year part-time (with distance learning); Postgraduate Diploma/Masters: 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time ( or 3 years if transfer to the Postgraduate Diploma/Masters following completion of the certificate).
We invite enquiries from students wishing to carry out research in language and communication, including research with children or adults who have communication impairments.
Many post-graduate modules are available as stand-alone courses. Some are delivered by online distance learning, others by 2-3 day study block attendance or by once-weekly attendance for 12 weeks.
