Development Materials
The project was designed to develop a range of materials to support information and development programmes addressing higher education in colleges (HE in FECs) for staff, governors and other stakeholders. The materials can be used to put together a programme tailored to the needs of groups with differing knowledge and experience of HE in FECs.
Materials address six key themes:
- the nature of higher education
- funding of HE delivered in FECS
- management and planning
- quality assurance arrangements
- policy and strategy for HE in FECs
- governance
By clicking on a button on the right you will be given an overview of the theme.
For each theme you will then be able to access more detailed information.
- The relevant section(s) of the good practice guide 'Supporting higher education in further education colleges. Policy, practice and prospects', HEFCE 2009/05
- Direct links to source material from HEFCE, the QAA, the LSC
- Materials which can be used in a range of programmes such as:
- an introductory or induction programme for staff who are new to higher education in colleges
- a presentation providing a context for college managers not directly involved in HE provision
- CPD for experienced HE teachers and managers
- an introduction for corporation members who will be required to sign off the college's higher education strategy to be submitted to HEFCE (by January 11 2010) and may be involved in monitoring the provision
- sessions addressing strategic development - including producing and monitoring an HE strategy.
Materials include background papers, case studies of good practice, contextual information and handouts, group work. A Directory listing all the materials can be downloaded on the right.
This area of the Expert Programme website was developed between June 2009 and May 2010. The website remains live after the end of the project in May 2010 with some updates. The Glossary (see button on the left) is being updated - on an occasional basis - and some new materials, publications and links are being provided where our time and resources permit. However, the majority of the website text is as written prior to May 2010.
Please note: policy and practice are subject to rapid change and persons using information provided here are responsible for assessing its relevance and accuracy at the time of making use of it.
