NEW Sheffield Graduate Training Contract
1 September 2013. The University has developed a bespoke contract of employment to ensure that Graduate Teaching Assistants are employed and supported effectively and consistently across the University.

Maternity leave Lean process review
5 August 2013. The maternity leave process has been reviewed, leading to improvements such as a new maternity toolkit, streamlined processes and a maternity leave calculator, as well as enhancing the adoption policy to incorporate surrogacy.

e-Recruitment Upgrade
29 July 2013. The work to upgrade the University's recruitment system is now complete.

HR Society Award: University ‘highly commended’ for Workforce Strategy and Planning
29 July 2013. The University has been awarded 'highly commended' in the HR Society Workforce Strategy and Planning Awards for a collaboration with the Institute of Science and Technology on a number of interlinked schemes for technical training, mentoring and skills mapping.

HR work experience scheme
8 July 2013. Human Resources provide a number of work experience opportunities to University of Sheffield students.

Sheffield Leader Goes International!
3 July 2013. A delegation of staff from Human Resources at the University of Sheffield are visiting Canadian universities to further develop long-term collaborative relationships.

New Casual Worker Processes
18 June 2013. The processes by which Casual Workers are registered and paid have been reviewed and reformed to make them more efficient, with the aim of reducing workloads right across the process. Following a successful pilot, these processes will be rolled-out to the rest of the University from 1 July 2013.

New Volunteering Guidance
29 May 2013. New guidance on volunteering is now available to provide information and support, for both staff and managers, on how best to implement and manage working arrangements and relationships to accommodate voluntary activities.

Spreading the Juice message
17 May 2013. The message of Juice – everyday health and wellbeing – received national exposure this week at the annual Universities Human Resources (UHR) conference in York.

Change management
1 May 2013. We are delighted to inform you that the University and its recognised trade unions have reached joint agreement on the Change Management policy and related procedures: Restructuring, Redundancy Avoidance, Redeployment, and Redundancy, which will be effective from 1 May 2013.

VC Fellowship campaign recognised
26 April 2013. Our recent Vice-Chancellor's Fellowship recruitment campaign has been recognised by the Public Sector People Managers Association (PPMA), at their Recruitment Awards, by being awarded runner-up in the Most Innovative Use of Social Media category.

Public Health Responsibility Deal
18 April 2013. This month the University has signed up to the Department of Health's Public Health Responsibility Deal. The Public Health Responsibility Deal has been established to tap into the potential for organisations to improve public health and tackle health inequalities through their influence over food, alcohol, physical activity and health in the workplace.

Recognition for VC Fellowships campaign
26 March 2013. We have been recognised for our innovative use of social media in our Leading Minds campaign for the Vice-Chancellor's Fellowships recruitment campaign, with a nomination in the PPMA Recruitment awards.

Arts Tower Blackout success
26 March 2013. Human Resources demonstrated its commitment to Green Impact by supporting the Arts Tower Blackout event and is now delighted to learn that Level 6, the only floor in the building exclusively occupied by Human Resources staff, was the best performing in the Arts Tower.

Juice Hillsborough parkrun
18 March 2013. Saturday 16 March 2013 saw the inaugural Juice parkrun at Hillsborough Park. 90 runners took part, many donning Juice T-shirts to spread the message of everyday health and wellbeing.

Introducing the new version of myJob/myTeam
18 March 2013. From 2 April we will be launching an upgrade to myJob/myTeam. The upgrade will introduce a new, more modern look and feel to these systems as well as new features and functionality.

Apprenticeships and trainees
15 March 2013. An update on the University's work to increase apprenticeships and trainee schemes.

SRDS 2012 participation update
12 March 2013. We are delighted to report that 88% of University staff had an SRDS review in 2012. This high level of participation has been maintained from 2011, and exceeds our target participation level of 85%.

Consultation on review of Section 6 of the University Statutes
20 February 2013. In 2012, Council requested a review of Charter, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations in order to address issues of clarity, consistency and fitness for purpose. As part of the review, Human Resources have been asked to look at Section 6, which relates specifically to the employment of academics.

RCUK looks for evidence of equality
31 January 2013. The University has been cited as an example in an article in Research Fortnight of a University demonstrating its commitment to equality.

New Employment Policy Suites
25 January 2013. We are delighted to announce the implementation of a number of new employment policies and procedures.

Teaching qualifications
16 January 2013. In response to changes to the annual statutory reporting requirements, a questionnaire has been sent to all academic and teaching staff about their teaching qualifications.

Record year for staff recruitment
2011–12 saw a new record set for the number of staff joining the University, at over 1300, which helped to increase the University's workforce by 6%.

2012-13 National Pay Negotiations
The national pay negotiations for the 2012/2013 pay round have now concluded. The outcome is an increase of 1% on all points on the pay spine, with effect from 1 August 2012. This increase will be implemented in the December 2012 payroll. The increased pay levels will be backdated to 1 August 2012.

Vice-Chancellor's Fellowships attracts 'Leading Minds'
10 December 2012. The University of Sheffield has received an overwhelming number of applications for the 20 Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship positions.
The Scheme is open to candidates with great potential. The aim is to create Fellows who will contribute and cohort individually in order to make an outstanding contribution to the University, as a research-led institution.

27 November 2012. University Business magazine have featured an article about Juice on their website.

UCU Anti-Stress and Bullying Week
22 November 2012. UCU are running a campaign to highlight stress and bullying in the workplace for the week 19–23 November 2012. This is a helpful prompt for the University to reiterate the support which is available for all staff should they feel they identify with the issues in the campaign.

Sheffield Leader welcomes Canadian visitors
2 November 2012. The Leadership and Management Development team will welcome guests from Carleton University from 6 to 9 November 2012.

REF 2014 Equalities and Diversity Training
19 October 2012. The University has launched an online REF equality and diversity training package. The training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and all staff are welcome to access it via the Learning Management System.

UCU Ballot Results Declared
11 October 2012. Following a sector-wide ballot of its members in relation to the 2012–13 national pay negotiations, UCU has confirmed that it has received a mandate to call upon its members to undertake action short of a strike.

3 October 2012. Following a sector-wide ballot of its members in relation to the 2012-13 national pay negotiations, UNISON has confirmed that it has, by a narrow margin, received a mandate to call upon its members to undertake strike action.

Portrait of a Woman Celebration Evening
1 October 2012. Join us tonight in Firth Hall from 5.30pm to celebrate the Portrait of a Woman Prize. An exhibition of photographs of inspirational female staff members at the University, by leading fine art Photographer Anton Want.

UCU Pause Industrial Action
25 September 2012. UCU has notified the University that it is to suspend the continuous industrial action it has been asking its members to take since October 2011. UCU representatives will now return to the discussions with the HE employers' representatives over the funding arrangements of the scheme which were halted when UCU commenced its action.

Changes to myTeam Sickness Absence Recording & Monitoring
1 August 2012. Changes are to be made to myTeam to improve the recording and monitoring of Sickness Absence.

Juice Summer Programme
In response to demand, we are delighted to announce our Juice summer programme of free health and wellbeing activities for staff to enjoy, including Bootcamps, Tai Chi, Healthy Eating workshops, Body MOTs, Bouldering and much more.
The programme of activities and events will run from 30 July 2012 to 7 September 2012 and will be open to all University staff.

myTeam Development
12 June 2012. A new look staff details page within myTeam has been implemented following the successful technical upgrade of myJob and myTeam earlier this year.

UHR Award – Exceptional HR Achievement
18 May 2012. Human Resources have been awarded another prestigious award: on 17 May the Department scooped the "Exceptional HR Achievement" award at the Universities HR (UHR) Annual Conference and Gala Dinner Event.

Juice
17 May 2012. As part of the pilot of free health and wellbeing activities which are an essential part of Juice -a pilot programme of activities and events will run from 21 May 2012 to 6 July 2012 with a special Olympic themed week commencing 25 June 2012.
