National industrial action on 30 June 2011

On Thursday 30 June, some public sector workers in the UK will be taking part in industrial action in response to changes to national public sector pension schemes.

This is not in relation to changes being made to USS or USPS.

Staff at the University of Sheffield are not expected to participate in any industrial action on this issue.

The University is expecting to be open as usual on 30 June, however it is acknowledged that members of staff may be affected by the strike action should it impact on schools and other services.

Sheffield City Council is maintaining a list of those schools expected to be closed as a result of the industrial action. This can be accessed via the following link:

It will be for each department to determine the best arrangements for its staff to ensure the delivery of services, particularly in student facing areas. Staff are advised to book annual leave or to identify, with their managers, flexible ways of working if their arrangements outside of work will be impacted by the industrial action.
