University celebrates the centenary of International Women’s Day

The University is proud to celebrate the centenary of International
Women’s Day on 8 March with a week of events highlighting the
achievements of Sheffield women.
Established at the International Conference of Working Women in
Copenhagen, the first International Women’s Day was held in 1911. Today, International Women’s Day is celebrated internationally, with thousands of events held across the world.
We will be marking this with a number of events taking place across the week, including a ‘Women of Steel’ event celebrating Sheffield women, hosted jointly with Sheffield City Council; lectures and exhibitions on show-women and women and ageing; and an International Women’s Day dinner for female staff and graduate students to be held on International Women's Day itself.
Further information and a full programme of events is available at www.shef.ac.uk/hr/equality/iwd.
