University One of the Top Employers in the Country for Women
The University of Sheffield has been ranked as one of the top 50 employers for women in the UK.
The Times Top 50 Employers for Women list judged organisations by what they were doing internally as a top employer for women, and externally to promote wider gender equality, diversity and inclusion.
The unranked list comprises organisations from across all sectors in which women will find more equality, diversity and ground-breaking initiatives that match their career needs and interests.
The University organises a number of events each year to promote the work of women at the University. In March this year the University held a week of events to mark the centenary of International Women´s Day, including talks, seminars and film showings.
The University has a number of schemes, run by the Department of Human Resources, which aim to help female staff in furthering their careers.
The Futures Programme, run by the University, involves female academics who are interested in governance and senior roles being mentored by, and working with, senior staff at the University. The aim of the programme is to increase the number of female academics contributing to the governance of the University. The scheme, which takes place over six months and is in its second year, is so popular it has been oversubscribed.
The University is one of only two higher education institutions on the list. Other organisations featured include Google, the Royal Air Force and Barclays.
Andrew Dodman, Director of the Human Resources, said "We are absolutely delighted to be included in The Times Top 50 Employers for women list. This recognition will motivate us further in our commitment to develop a talented and diverse University community".
