UCU Strike Action

21 March 2011. The University and College Union (UCU) informed the University they will be taking industrial action on Tuesday 22 March and Thursday 24 March 2011.

The strike action is in furtherance of the two ballots conducted here in Sheffield in relation to the proposed changes to USS and pay and job security. Further background information on the disputes can be found at http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/reward/ucudispute.

The University will remain open on both days of strike action and the interests of all our students will remain paramount throughout.

Staff are reminded that where industrial action is taken, either in the form of a strike or action short of a strike, then pay will be deducted. Staff taking action are required to notify both their Head of Department and the HR Department in order that pay may be deducted, and should do so by using the form that provided on the HR pages at http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/reward/ucudispute/action.

Staff should also be aware that the University does not accept partial performance, and that full pay may be deducted should staff not fulfil their contractual duties. Please see the full statement on our approach to pay negotiations on our web pages at http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/reward/paynegotiation/statement.html

For the sake of clarity, only staff who are members of the UCU are covered by this strike action.
