Additional Bank Holiday 5 June 2012
Introduction
The University is pleased to confirm that an additional Bank Holiday will be granted to coincide with the Golden Jubilee on Tuesday 5 June 2012, and will be incorporated into the leave entitlement of all employees for the 2011-12 leave year (pro rata for part-time employees). This bank holiday immediately follows on from Spring Bank Holiday on Monday 4 June 2012.
Staff cover on 5 June 2012
It is anticipated that the majority of staff will not be required to work on 5 June 2012, although some departments may be required to provide service cover. Departments who are likely to require some staff to attend work on this date, should agree so in advance with employees, with reference to the University´s principles on staff cover for Bank Holidays and Closure Days, which can be found at: http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/az/bankholcover.html.
Pay arrangements
Pay arrangements for eligible staff who are required to work on 5 June 2012, are set out at: http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/hr/reward/additional. It is important that pay/overtime arrangements are clearly agreed with the employee before work commences.
Part-time employees
The additional Bank Holiday will be calculated on a pro rata basis for part-time employees, as set out at the following link: http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/guidance/leave/ptleave.html.
Notes that some part-time staff may have insufficient pro-rata leave to cover the additional Bank Holiday. Where this is the case, managers are encouraged to discuss alternative arrangements for 5 June 2012 with the employee.
