The Business Solutions Team are continually working to ensure the employment-related processes and systems help to drive the University's agenda and are efficient, effective and user friendly.
Below are some of the projects the Business Solutions Team are currently working on:
HESA Return 2012/13
Significant changes have been made by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) to the staff data Universities are required to return to them for 2012/13. As a result of this, Business Solutions in partnership with other teams in HR are reviewing staff processes and data capture to comply with these changes. The key benefits to the University will be:
- Improved data capture for Casual Workers
- Increase in the quality of our equality information
- Greater visibility for departments
e-Recruitment upgrade
In 2013 Business Solutions - in collaboration with CiCS - will be upgrading the University's staff recruitment system. The system the University uses is SAP based, and the project will work to implement Enhancement Pack 6, released in 2012. The project will improve browser support for candidates as well as give the opportunity to revisit existing functionality and to build on the successes achieved since the system was implemented in 2009. Casual Worker Process Review
The process by which Casual Workers are registered and paid has been identified as requiring improvement as it was felt to be too long and over complicated. Changes were also required to these process to accommodate changes in legislation around pensions automatic enrolment and UK Border Agency regulations. In order to address these concerns a project group was formed, made up of representatives from Finance, Human Resources and Departments who engage workers. The group participated in a "Rapid Improvement Event" facilitated by the Process Improvement Unit the end result of which was a process which could be quickly piloted across both academic and Professional Services departments.
The benefits of this project are:
- Provide the University with an efficient and quicker process for registering and paying Casual Workers.
- Assist the University in compliance with legislation.
- Replace a paper based system with a more paper light approach.
