Public Sector Equality Duty
PAGE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The Equality Act 'Specific Equality Duties' for the public sector came into force in 2010
The Public Sector General Equality Duty requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to:
1) eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010;
2) advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups
3) foster good relations between people from different groups
The specific duties require higher education institutions to publish:
• Equality Objectives, at least every 4 years
During 2012 we undertook an extensive project to set our Equality Objectives which are now being implemented across the University. For further information see our Equality Objectives pages.
• Information to demonstrate their compliance with the Equality duty, at least annually
Our 2012 Equality Report can be downloaded below and via the right-hand link.
The Equality Act 2010 sets out our legislative requirements as an employer towards embedding equality throughout our institution. To find out more see our equality strategy 'Excellence Through Inclusion'.
