ChildrenParents in Academia (formerly Children and Academia) - May 2012

This was an event in which parents and parents of the future gathered to share experiences of balancing a career in academia with a family.

Combining academic speakers and discussion groups, the event provided the opportunity to discuss difficulties and learn about available mechanisms of support. For further information see our Parents in Academia webpages.

 IDAHO

International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) - May 17th 2010

IDAHO was launched in 2005 to commemorate the World Health Organisation decision to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders.

To mark this day we are launching our LGBT Network and also holding a number of related events.

OutatWork Day

Out@Work

Out@Work was a celebratory day of discussions and workshops to raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans issues in the work place.

The event aimed to help the University reflect on and examine how to sustain a workplace which promotes inclusion and respect for diversity.

Women@TUOS2009

Women@TUOS2009

Staff from across the University came together for Women@TUOS2009, a series of events and development opportunities focusing on female progression at the University which took place from 29 June - 10 July.

2009 is a milestone in the University's history - it marks the 50th anniversary of the first female professor at the University of Sheffield, Professor Aileen Guilding, who was promoted to Professor of Biblical Studies in 1959.

Mental Health

Mental Health Day

On 31 October 2008 we held a day of discussion, debate and information on supporting staff with mental health needs; ensuring equal opportunites for all; and working against stigma and discrimination.

During the day, we focused on the disabling issue of stigma; on the employment of people with mental health problems; and on how best the University can support all staff who have, manage or care for somebody suffering from mental ill-health.

Excellence Through Inclusion Week

Over 80 staff from across the University came together on Tuesday 1 May to discuss what inclusion means and how it affects them and others working and studying at the University.
