Heads of Department Reward and Benefits
The University of Sheffield has a shared vision in that "we will value our staff for what they contribute and achieve"
As a Head of Department this will mean that along with the regular benefits of being a member of staff employed by the University of Sheffield there are additional benefits which are available to you.
At present the benefits are split into five categories and include core and lifestyle benefits along with UOffers. Please see myBenefits for more information.
In addition as a Head of Department there are other benefits and rewards specifically designed around the role and to reflect the additional responsibilities which are undertaken.
Study Leave
As a Head of Department it is recognised that you may not be able to undertake research as you may have originally planned, therefore at the end of your term as Head of Department you are eligible to apply for a period of study leave in order to undertake your research. This is usually for a period of 1 year and will need to be approved by the Faculty Pro-Vice Chancellor.

Head of Department Contribution Scheme
The University is aware and values the role of Head of Department and therefore has implemented a scheme to award those individuals who have taken on this role.
The contribution scheme is available to professorial grade only including Clinical Heads of Academic Departments/Schools, Faculty Directors of Learning & Teaching or Research & Innovation.
Applications for the award are submitted to the Faculty Pro-Vice Chancellor, who will make a decision around the level of bonus to be awarded.
It is important to note that the bonus is non-superannuable and a facility is available if you wish to use this as an additional voluntary contribution to your pension scheme. Further information is available at Heads' Contribution Scheme.
