Senior Titles

Professorial Titles

Professorial level titles are the highest mark of academic recognition awarded in the University.

They are reserved for those cases of the highest academic or equivalent standing.

Approval for all titles rests with the Vice-Chancellor/Readerships & Personal Chairs Committee.

The links on the right hand side of this page aim to provide guidance for the appropriate use of Professorial Titles.

Chair Titles

All Chair holders are encouraged to adopt a specialist title to reflect the relevant discipline field in which they work.

The format of the title should be "Professor of ......"

If required, the agreed title may subsequently be amended, after consultation with the Head of Department and the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

All Readers are encouraged to adopt a specialist title to reflect the relevant discipline field in which they work.

The format of the title should be "Reader in ......"
