Consideration of recommendations
The Departmental Review Panel (DRP) should consider all the cases put forward by reviewers in the department, and decide which ones are deserving of submission to the faculty panels. The membership of the DRP includes the department´s HR Adviser, who can provide advice where required.
If the DRP agrees to recommend the member of staff, the Head of Department should ensure the recommendation is presented appropriately, before submitting the case to Human Resources for consideration by the faculty panels. DRPs should decide whether staff are to be told they have been recommended for an ECA.
Assessment and approval of ECAs at all grades is carried out within faculties, by the faculty ECA panel. This panel consists of:
Academic Faculties
- Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Chair)
- Faculty Director of Operations
- Head of Department from the faculty, nominated by the Faculty PVC
- Two experienced University Managers (one of whom is from HR)
- Lead HR Adviser for the faculty
Professional Services
- Registrar and Secretary (Chair)
- Two Directors of Professional Services Department, nominated by the Registrar & Secretary
- Two experienced University Managers (one of which is from HR, and the other from an academic faculty)
- Lead HR Adviser for Professional Services
All panels are administered by an HR Adviser.
The panel assesses the recommendation for an ECA and judges whether they feel it demonstrates either exceptional contribution or a sustained level of excellent contribution, taking into account the context, grade and brief outline of the job.
