Additional Voluntary Contributions

Piggy bank You can choose to increase the value of your pension benefits by making Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs). If you receive a lump sum/bonus payment, you can arrange to pay it into an AVC.

Give as you Earn

Coins Through this scheme you can make regular tax efficient donations to the charity or charities of your choice, direct from your salary. The donation you make is free of tax, so every £1 you donate will only cost you 80 pence from your net pay (or 60 pence if you pay higher rate tax).

The University of Sheffield is committed to sustainable travel and supports this policy with a range of choices including:

  • Car share scheme to reduce the cost and hassle of driving to work.
  • Facilities for cyclists including showers, secure parking, advice and training, and an active cycle forum.

The University promotes alternatives to one-person-one-car commuter costs wherever possible. However, some staff do need parking facilities, so you can choose to buy a car parking permit if you meet the qualifying criteria.

  • Student facilities and services, including excellent, 24 hour library facilities, the Students’ Union, a multi-faith Chaplaincy Service and Housing Service. Staff with pre-school age children can also apply to use the Students’ Union Nursery.
