The University’s grade profiles form the criteria against which roles should be considered for promotion to these grades. The grade profiles can be found via the quick link to the right of this page.

Additional point relating to Staff on Grade 6/promotions to Grade 7:

The normal starting point for staff promoted to Grade 7 will be spine point 29 (7.2) in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding with trade unions in relation to the Framework Agreement on pay scales.

Promotions to Grade 8 Teaching or Research

For a case to be successful to Grade 8 (University Teacher or Research Fellow), there would need to be a strong case in at least one of Teaching or Research.

The level of achievement against the criteria will vary among candidates according to the type of work and discipline. The procedures are intended to be sufficiently flexible to take account of these variations. The candidates should be considered against each of the criteria, bearing in mind that a very good performance on all criteria might be balanced by an outstanding performance on one or two.

Specific criteria in relation to these cases can be found via the quick links to the right of this page.
