Pay arrangements following promotions

General

All promotions, except to Reader, result in progression to a new grade. Following promotion, the equivalent of at least one increment is awarded.

Readership

It is expected that staff conferred the title of Reader will already be on grade 9. New Readers are awarded one additional increment, effective from the date of conferment.

If a member of staff is already on the top of the normal range or within the exceptional range of grade 9 before promotion, one increment is awarded following promotion. Progression within the exceptional range is not automatic.

Promotion to Grades 2 to 9

If the grade and point before promotion is within the normal range, including the top point, promotion will be to the first point of the next grade.

Staff in the exceptional range before promotion

If a member of staff is within the exceptional range before promotion, one increment on the next grade will be awarded following promotion.

Progression within the exceptional range is not automatic and therefore promotion to the next grade results in an increment which would not normally be awarded.

Arrangements for Promotion to Grade 7

Promotion to grade 7 will be to point 2. Where the grade and point before promotion is 6.8 or 6.9, promotion will be to 7.3 or 7.4 respectively.
