Learning, teaching and student support
The University is committed to the continuous improvement of the student experience. The Student Services Department provides a wide range of services supporting the whole student journey, from initial enquiry to final award. Learning and Teaching Services (LeTS) work with staff and students to develop and support learning, teaching and assessment, aiming for the continuous improvement of the student learning experience and to provide help for staff.
Both Student Services and LeTS provide a range of development activities for staff, which are summarised below. Full details of the activities on offer can be found from the link on the right.
Recruitment matters
Recruitment Matters has been developed by Student Services to provide advice, support and guidance to staff who deal with student recruitment, admissions and related marketing activity.
Professional Development in Learning & Teaching
LeTS staff have broad-based expertise in areas of continuing professional development for learning and teaching. LeTS can support your teaching practice through both award bearing programmes and tailored provision. LeTS run a range of scheduled courses, workshops and seminars for developing staff knowledge of a wide range of issues in teaching, such as designing a programme, providing students with feedback, or teaching large groups.
Sheffield Teaching Assistant
The Sheffield Teaching Assistant is an exciting professional development programme specifically designed for postgraduate students and early career researchers with teaching responsibilities.
Supporting the Supporters
Students may approach members of staff for advice and support on non-academic issues. With this in mind, the Student Services Department aims to provide training, advice and support to staff throughout the University through the "Supporting the Supporters" initiative.
