Who Sheffield Leader 2 is for:
Your sphere of influence will be across the wider department, whilst you regularly liaise with other members of the department outside your own particular team. Your stakeholders will be all staff within your department, including the Head or Director of Department. In some cases you will need to influence staff in the wider faculty/ University in order for your work to be effective.
You will lead the organisation of a defined work area and will have responsibility for either delegating work to others or for directly managing a group of staff (including Contract Research Staff). You will have some awareness of key leadership skills and attributes, which will have been gained through either participation in leadership development programmes or through your own research.
The aims of Sheffield Leader 2:
- Equip individual leaders with the necessary awareness, capabilities and confidence
- Enable individuals to work on an improvement area in their own department
- Create a collaborative network of leaders working for and across the University
- Develop leadership practices that demonstrate a tangible contribution to the challenges faced and future aspirations of the University
What Sheffield Leader 2 involves:
For each participant the time commitment will be days (7 with leadership exchange) over 7 months, which entails a combination of class- and work-based events providing a pragmatic, reflective, experiential and theoretically robust curriculum. Initiated with a half day launch event, participants will then embark on a series of 1 and 2-day class-based modules (‘The Challenges for TUoS Leadership’, ‘Leading Change and Leading Others’ and ‘Self-awareness, Influence and Impact’) supported by 2 x ½-day Action Learning groups, a 1-day leadership exchange, and further development material. The culmination of these modules will be an event where participants will present their findings from an individual improvement project they will have been working on in addition to sharing their learning from the Sheffield Leader 2. This whole process will then be incorporated into each participant’s SRDS through a pre- and de-brief with their line manager.
