Who Sheffield Leader 3 is for:

You will have formal leadership responsibilities covering a significant work area, which has University-wide impact. You will be used to liaising with colleagues across the University and also relevant associated professionals external to the University. You will typically have line management responsibility for a number of staff, although if you don’t, you will need to influence large numbers of senior staff from across the University to be effective in your role. Your stakeholders are therefore your own team, department, faculty, senior staff in the University outside your own direct area and staff external to the University. You may already hold a broad understanding and awareness of leadership practice and theory, gained through either formal development or your own experience and research.

The aims of Sheffield :


• Equip individual leaders with the necessary awareness, capabilities and confidence
• Create a collaborative network of leaders working for and across the University
• Develop leadership practices that demonstrate a tangible contribution to the challenges faced and future aspirations of the University

What Sheffield Leader 3 involves:

For each participant the time commitment will be approximately 9 days over 8 months, which entails a combination of class and work-based events providing a pragmatic, reflective, experiential and theoretically robust curriculum. Initiated with a short launch event, participants will then embark on a series of 2 and 1-day class-based modules (‘The Challenges for TUoS Leadership’, ‘Leading Change and Leading Others’ and ‘Self-awareness, Influence and Impact’) supported by 3 x ½-day impact groups, a 1-day leadership exchange and further developmental material. The culmination of these modules will be an event which brings participants together to share both the impact of this journey alongside the key lessons which have emerged; individually, collectively and systemically. This whole process will then by incorporated into each participant’s SRDS through a pre and de-brief with their line manager.
