Working Environment

The environment in which you work is important to us. There are a number of teams across the University who are dedicated to ensuring that your working environment is suitable for your needs.
Department of Estates
The Department of Estates makes a positive and significant contribution to the University's shared vision by providing and maintaining a physical environment which attracts high calibre staff and students to the University.
They are responsible for all building projects and maintenance of about 390 buildings and facilities across the main University campus, including the residential campus which is situated nearby toward the West of the city.
One of the important key roles of the Department is to provide a safe, and sustainable work place for students, staff and visitors.

Environmental Policy
The University of Sheffield is a large organisation which has over 23,000 students, 6000 staff and several hundred buildings. Due to the size and nature of the activities the University has some significant environmental impacts affecting the local and global environment.
The University recognises its impact and has made a corporate commitment to improving its environmental performance by developing and adopting an Environmental Policy. This has been in place since 1997 (and revised in 2008) and provides the framework for all our work, whether it be in relation to energy saving, waste and recycling or sustainable transport.
The Energy & Environment Team has responsibility for implementing the environmental policy throughout the University and its activities. Safety Services
The principal aim of Safety Services is to provide the University with a fund of high quality expertise, knowledge and assistance in the field of safety regulation and practice across the diverse range of activities undertaken and facilities provided, to enable the University to meet its statutory obligations with regard to the safety of employees and those affected by the activities of the University.
