About the Staff Occupational Health Service
Our activities are diverse and include (but are not limited to):
- advising the University on health policy and legislation (including via relevant committees and working parties);
- providing information and advice via e-mail and telephone;
- individual appointments;
- reports to management on work-related health issues affecting individuals and groups;
- statutory health surveillance;
- fitness assessments;
- planning rehabilitation programmes;
- ill-health retirement assessments;
- work-related health education and promotion.
The Service is located on Floor 6 of the Arts Tower and you can contact us by calling the general office on tel no: 0114 222 6215 or by using our central email address: staff-occupational-health@sheffield.ac.uk. In addition to our defined role, we work closely with our colleagues and other support services (eg Human Resources, Health and Safety Services and Staff Counselling) in areas of mutual interest to the benefit of all staff. In all circumstances medical confidentiality remains paramount.
The Staff Occupational Health Service does not provide a treatment or first aid service. For general medical care you should register with a general practitioner. Sheffield Family Health Services (tel. 0114 258211) can provide you with a list of local practices. NHS Direct (0845 46 47) can also provide good general medical advice. For injuries you could seek treatment from your departmental first aider, the NHS Trust´s accident and emergency service (Northern General Hospital) or the walk-in centre (Sheffield GP Collaborative, A Floor, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2JF).
