Travelling to Work
A smooth and stress-free journey to work in the morning helps ensure a positive start to the working day. The University supports many different ways of travelling to work that can make this happen, including promoting cycling to work, participating in a car sharing scheme and offering discounted travel passes.

Cycling
Cycling is a good way to help you keep fit and can be quicker than travelling by car in congested conditions. Cycling is on the increase with more people cycling to and from the campus and we aim to make it as easy as possible to get here by bike.
For more information about cycling to work, please visit http://www.shef.ac.uk/environment/transport/cycling.html
Pay Plus for bikes
Pay Plus for bikes enables you to receive the loan of a bicycle (suitable for commuting to work) and safety accessories over a period of 12 or 18 months, through a reduction to your salary. This salary reduction means that you save on the cost of the bike, through paying less tax and National Insurance.
Pay Plus for bikes is available to all University and Union of Students´ staff, and is organised by a team from Human Resources (Reward & Benefits), Finance (Pay & Pensions Office) and the Energy and Environment team, with the support of the University of Sheffield Cycle Forum, and with funding from the Transport Policy budget.
Please visit the Pay Plus for bikes web pages at http://www.shef.ac.uk/payplus/bikes for more information.
Car Sharing Scheme
The University of Sheffield, with funding from the Transport Policy Budget, has commissioned Liftshare to develop and host a private car sharing database for university staff and students.

Public Transport
Public transport is the easy way to get around the city. The Supertram runs through the heart of University, Sheffield Station has undergone a major transformation and high frequency bus services can take you to all parts of Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
How can we help?
The University provides a discounted ticketing scheme offering significant discounts against the on street prices of monthly travel passes. Information on public transport can be found online with timetables and route maps also available from most porters lodges. Staff and students can travel for free on the HO1 hospital shuttle service between the Northern General and Hallamshire Hospitals. We also support the operation of the Abbeydale park and ride service.

Walking
Most of the University buildings are within short walking distance of each other and the city centre is on the doorstep.
Walking is free, you don´t need any specialist equipment and it´s good for you. Walking can:
- Reduce risk of developing heart disease and stroke
- Help reduce stress
- Help you control your weight
- Maintain good mental health

If you´re thinking about changing how you travel to or from work, a Personalised Travel Planning (PTP) project has been put together to raise awareness of all the travel options available to you. By completing a very short survey, you will receive a multi-media PTP containing lots of useful travel information that is tailored to your individual needs.
