On arrival at the Department, please follow the signs to the registration desk, situated outside the Ron Johnson Research Room on floor C of the building. Delegates presenting posters will be asked to display these on the boards provided.
The meeting will commence at 11.00 with a short welcome/practical information presentation, followed by the first oral session at 11.15. See the provisional programme for further details.
Travel to the Department
Car: Parking is at a premium near to the University. All University car parks are for permit-holders only; parking on the streets adjacent to the Department is similarly restricted. Parking is allowed on Winter Street and Bolsover Street near the Department, but only between 9.30 and 16.30. We therefore recommend parking at or near your accommodation and walking or using other forms of transport to reach the Department of Geography.
Supertram: The easiest way to the Department from the railway station/transport interchange is by Supertram to the ‘University of Sheffield’ tram stop. The nearest tram stop to the station is accessed via a footbridge from platform 6b at the rear of the station. The Blue Route service (bound for ‘Malin Bridge’) departs from the station towards University every 10 minutes. Alternatively, the Blue Route service (bound for ‘Malin Bridge’) and Yellow Route service (bound for ‘Middlewood’) both depart towards University from the Fitzalen Square/Pond’s Forge tram stop on Commercial Street. Tickets are purchased on the tram. Journey times are approximately 15 minutes.
Supertram route maps and timetables can be found at http://www.supertram.net/journeyplanner.html
Other transport: The most direct bus route to the Department from the railway station/transport interchange is service 40, which departs every 10 minutes from the interchange, and stops on Glossop Road (about a 10 minute walk from the Department). Service 94/95 stops directly outside the Department but stops at the interchange on the return journey only; to travel to the Department using this service you must board the service at the Commercial Street stop. Timetables for both services are available to download (right). Journey times are approximately 20 minutes.
Taxi: A taxi to the Department from the taxi rank outside the railway station will take around 10 minutes and should cost around £4. If the taxi driver is not familiar the location of the Department, ask for the ‘Star & Garter’ pub on Winter Street or for University of Sheffield.
