Student Societies for Indian students

Indian students play a major role in many of the national, cultural, social and sporting societies at Sheffield. There are two student societies in particular that are popular with Indian students studying at the University of Sheffield.

The Indian Society

The Indian Society

The Indian Society was formed in 2003 and is run by Indian international students. The Society is aimed at promoting all things India – music, food, film and culture.

Having more than 200 members, the society is very active and is involved in all the major international events that are organised at the University such as the International Food Evening, Global Games, the International Cultural Evening and International Women´s Day.

In the beginning of the academic year the Indian Society organises a special Intro Party in which all the new Indian students can meet current Indian students and learn about the events the society organises each year. In addition the Society celebrates Diwali and Holi in a modern yet Indian way so that international students can have a good time and stay in touch with their cultural roots. Finally the society organises events such as Bollywood nights, cricket tournaments and regular trips.

You can get in touch with the society and they would be happy to hear from you.

The Sheffield Bollywood Society

Bollywood night out.

We are the `Sheffield University Bollywood Society´ and we cater for students who come to Sheffield and enjoy the whole culture of Bollywood and everything that is related to it. This includes the films, the food, the glamour, the music, the dancing, the outfits, the values and the general feel of that environment.

Whilst this tends to attract the Asian community, a vast amount of our members are of different backgrounds. We have socials throughout the year such as the dance showcase in which we perform, we go out for meals, we watch films, we have dance classes and we are planning a big surprise towards the end of the year!

Please feel free to email us if you have any queries.

The Hindu Students' Forum provides a fresh and modern understanding of the Hindu way of life and aims to provide Indian students with a `home away from home´ atmosphere.

The society caters for all tastes and organises cultural and social events including trips, debates, meals, film nights, karaoke, religious, cultural and sporting events. Activities last year were wide ranging; from regular yoga classes, football sessions, Bhagavat Geeta classes, cinema trips and games nights.
The Society also organises the famous 'Moonlights' Diwali celebration, one of the largest in the country attracting more than 1000 students from universities all over the UK.

The society members would love to hear from you. If you have any questions before you come to Sheffield you can contact them by email.
