When the Information Desks are unstaffed

You will still be able to:

  • use the self-service machines to borrow and return books
  • use the computers, scanners, copiers and printers
  • use the top-up machines to add printing and copying credit
  • use the group study rooms
  • pay fines of £3 or more online through MUSE

You will not be able to:

  • collect reserved books
  • pay fines in person
  • buy anything from the Level 0 desk
  • get assistance with using the Computing or Library systems

There will be no shelving staff, so returned books will not be re-shelved or sorted onto the holding areas.

Borrowing books

Over the vacation, you can borrow books for longer. See the table below for details.

Normal Loans Borrowed after 9am Due for return
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Course From Monday 4th April Wednesday 4th May
Reserved Items Borrowed after 9am Due for return
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Course From Monday 4th April Tuesday 3rd May

  • Please note that items can be reserved as normal throughout the vacation, but won't be recalled. The only way you can ensure that you can keep them for the whole vacation is to borrow or renew them during the last week of semester.
  • If a book has been reserved for someone else you may not be able to renew it over the vacation and will be liable for any fines incurred.
  • If you encounter any difficulties, please contact the Renewals Hotline on: 0114 22 27201.
