Where do I find...
...books in the IC?Books are shelved on Levels 1 - 4 as shown below. This information can also be found on the directories between the lifts on each level.
|
...books on my subject?Check the directories situated between the lifts on Levels 0-4 or use the Library catalogue (STAR) which you can access via MUSE. |
...books I’ve requested? You will receive an email from the Library telling you where to collect your book - this may not be the site you expected because we will put aside the first copy that comes back. If the collection site is the IC, you will be able to use the 24/7 self-service collection facility on Level 0. |
...reference books? There is no separate reference section in the IC. Reference books have green bands on the spine and are shelved with the loanable books. They cannot be removed from the IC, but if you can't find one on the shelf, it's worth checking the Holding Area (at the start of the sequence on each floor). All books that are collected from tables and trolleys are put here for re-shelving, along with the books that have been returned over the counter and in the self-service machines. |
...the Library catalogue (STAR)?You can access STAR via MUSE at any of the PCs or kiosks on campus as well as on your home computer. |
...other library sites?See the link for more information. |
...recently returned books? These are sorted into rough shelfmark order, ready for shelving, at the start of each shelving sequence. Find them at the front of the building on Levels 1-4. |
...newspapers?Newspapers are available to read in the IC and can be found at the Level 1 Information Desk. |
...past exam papers? These are located on the shelves to the right of the Information Desk (near the 320s) |
...music scores? These are shelved on Level 3, at the end of the 700s. |
...oversize books? These are shelved on Level 1, opposite the Business Unit. |
...the LPC resource room? The LPC resource room is behind the Information Desk on Level 1 and is available for use by LPC students only. |
...book issue machines? You can borrow books using machines on Levels 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4. You will need your UCard and your Library PIN. It is worth noting that you're more likely to have to queue to use the machine on Level 0. |
...book return machines? The return machines are on Level 0. The robotised book sorter (one of the first in the UK) is on the left, just inside the main doors; the other return machine is to the left of the café. To help us to get books back on the shelves as quickly as possible, please return books to their home site where possible. |
...ejournals, subject databases and ebooks? You can access these from the Library tab in MUSE on any computer or kiosk. |
