Student Societies for Students from Botswana
Students from Botswana play a major role in many of the national, cultural, social and sporting societies at Sheffield but there are two student societies in particular that are popular with students from Botswana studying here.
The African and Caribbean Society
Bringing together Africans, Caribbeans and others interested in getting to know more about Afro-Caribbean culture. The ACS is dedicated to creating a forum where Afro-Caribbean Culture is celebrated and important issues also discussed.
The society is famous for its successful social events, however there are numerous other events which the society holds such as career talks and participation in the students union national events. The ACS is dedicated to providing an avenue for its members to enjoy their time at university as well as plan for the future.
Join us in celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture whether you are Afro-Caribbean or not and you are guaranteed to have a good time and meet great people!
The Black Students' Committee
The Black Student Commitee (BSC) addresses issues specific to Black students (incorporating those of African, Caribbean, Arab, Asian, and Latin American origin). We work with other committees and student societies, in particular the NUS Black Student Campaign to improve Black student representation and at all levels within the university and nationally.
Our activities include holding talks and discussion groups on related issues, and providing a voice for Black students. In addition we celebrate diversity and black history during Black History Week and International Women's Day.
Our Award Winning Students' Union actually has over 250 societies so there are plenty to choose from in addition to these two!
