Student Societies for Chinese students
Chinese students play a major role in many of the national, cultural, social and sporting societies at Sheffield but there are two student societies in particular that are popular with Chinese students studying here.
谢菲尔德中国CSSA Sheffield

The Chinese Scholars and Students Association (CSSA) is one of our most popular societies in the University of Sheffield.
The society offers lots of useful advice in Mandarin about life as a student in the university and in Sheffield. You can find information about where to eat to what to do in Sheffield.
If you are a new student looking to apply to Sheffield, the Society are able to offer very useful advice from the perspective of a current Chinese student.

The Chinese Society
The Chinese Society, also known as ChiSoc, is run by Sheffield international students. The Society is aimed at promoting all things China – music, food, film and culture.
It is very active and is involved in all the major international events that are organised at the University such as the International Food Evening, Global Games, the International Cultural Evening and International Women´s Day.
In the beginning of the academic year the Chinese Society organises a special Intro Party in which all the new Chinese students can meet current members and learn about the events the society organises each year. The society is not just limited to Chinese students as they welcome students from all over the University of Sheffield.
The Society are always happy to hear from new members. Please email the Chinese Society for more information.
Sino-English Corner (汉英角)

The Sino-English corner began as a language and culture exchange activity from students for students in March 2007. The idea was born following the meeting of a group of SEAS students with CSSA representatives at the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute in January 2007.
The group has proven to be very successful, and are always looking forward to welcoming new faces in a pleasant language exchange environment. Many of the students that attend are from all over the world, interested in speaking English and Chinese Mandarin. It is a great opportunity for students to improve their English and Chinese language abilities, and to share cultural experiences.
SEC is expanding this year to include a regular Chinese folk dance class, and a music band for Chinese/English learners who are interested in learning languages through lyrics and making arrangements of Chinese and English songs.
You can email the Sino-English corner or check out their web pages for more information.
Sheffield Students' Union
Sheffield Students' Union is proud to have the best Students' Union in the country (Times Higher Education Student Experience 2011, 2012). We were also awarded the Best Services for International Students in the NUS Awards 2011.
New students can sometimes be confused about the difference between the Students' Union and the University. Whilst the University looks after your academic study, the Union covers all the other aspects of student life - from entertainment, activities and services to advice, support and representation.
The other great thing about Sheffield Students' Union is that it really is yours! You can have a say in everything from policies to getting new items in the shop.
Getting involved in your Students' Union is a great way to meet new people and play your part in the University of Sheffield student community. More information can be found on the Students' Union web pages.
