MA Applied Linguistic with TESOL
Before coming to the University of Sheffield I studied English language and literature in university and then taught English in Korea. However, I thought that my teaching English was not enough for students, so I decided to learn more about teaching and get certificated from SMU-TESOL in Korea. After that I taught TOEIC to university students until I came here.
I wanted to study at a university that was in an area where I would get to meet people from different countries and backgrounds – so I could experience something different from my education in Korea and it was recommended to me that I consider the University of Sheffield. In addition, the University of Sheffield highly ranks for my subject. It was also very important to me that The University of Sheffield has many scholarships for international students.
The most enjoyable thing about studying my course at The University of Sheffield is that I can learn new things which I have never learned before. I think that the most valuable aspect of my course is that it is very practical, so it will be of great use for my future job. The teaching and study methods here are varied. Because of a number of students on my course, most classes were very teacher centred to start. But in the Spring semester it is changed and there are different methods used in the classes.
I think studying in Sheffield will be very beneficial. In Korea the University of Sheffield is becoming more well-known, as it is a good university and a great many students graduated from this university and have demonstrated the superiority of University of Sheffield.
For me, the best thing about life at the University of Sheffield is the Information Commons (the IC). There are many resources there for the students studying.
Once I finish my course I would like gain work experience in the UK, so I can put everything I have learned in my course to good use.
My advice to any student considering coming to Sheffield is that you must study hard, but enjoy your life in Sheffield!
