Student Societies for Taiwanese students
Taiwanese students play a major role in many of the national, cultural, social and sporting societies at Sheffield. We have a number of exciting societies that Taiwanese students are able to join.
Sheffield Taiwanese Society
The Sheffield Taiwanese Society organises a range of activities throughout the year and brings together students from the city´s two universities – The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
Trips to other cities and meals out are typical events and the society has previously been involved in a range of cultural events organised by the university including a very popular appearance at the Global Flavas University´s international food festival.
You can get in touch with the society directly and they would be happy to hear from you.

The Chinese Society
The Chinese Society, also known as ChiSoc, is run by Sheffield international students. Proving to be a very popular society, it is very active and is involved in all the major international events that are organised at the University such as the International Food Evening, Global Games, the International Cultural Evening and International Women´s Day.
In the beginning of the academic year the Chinese Society organises a special Intro Party in which all the new Taiwanese students can meet current members and learn about the events the society organises each year. The society is not just limited to Taiwanese or Chinese students as they welcome students from all over the University of Sheffield.
The Society are always happy to hear from new members.

Sino-English Corner (汉英角)
The Sino-English corner began as a language and culture exchange activity from students for students in March 2007. The idea was born following the meeting of a group of School of East Asian Studies (SEAS) students with CSSA representatives at the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute in January 2007.
The group has proven to be very successful, and are always looking forward to welcoming new faces in a pleasant language exchange environment. Many of the students that attend are from all over the world, interested in speaking English and Chinese Mandarin. It is a great opportunity for students to improve their English and Chinese language abilities, and to share cultural experiences.
SEC is expanding this year to include a regular Chinese folk dance class, and a music band for Chinese/English learners who are interested in learning languages through lyrics and making arrangements of Chinese and English songs.
You can get in touch with the society and they would be happy to hear from you.

Sheffield Students' Union
Sheffield is proud to have the best Students' Union in the country – in the Times Higher Education Survey 2009 we were ranked top in the category of Good Students' Union and we've won several awards for Best Students' Union from the NUS and Club Mirror.
New students can sometimes be confused about the difference between the Students' Union and the University. Whilst the University looks after your academic study, the Union covers all the other aspects of student life - from entertainment, activities and services to advice, support and representation. The other great thing about Sheffield Students' Union is that it really is yours! You can have a say in everything from policies to getting new items in the shop.
