Erfan Dehghanfar
Erfan graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2010 with an MSc Information Management.
I am doing a Masters degree in Information Management in the Department of Information Studies.
I applied for the University of Sheffield for my Master´s Degree in the field of Management of Information because of the following reasons:
- It is one of the high ranking universities in World; it is rated 13th in the UK, 26th in Europe and 82nd in the world according to 2009 Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings.
- It is very strong in IT, knowledge management, and e-commerce; the fields that I am very interested in.
- It has a leading faculty in the world.
- The student accommodations being offered by the university is excellent.
- It has a very big and attractive campus.
- By studying this subject, I would be able to expand my knowledge in the field of IT as well as gaining management skills.
While undertaking Bsc in IT Engineering, I have studied a wide range of courses relating to web developing, Database designing, writing business plans for companies, software engineering developing and project management. Studying these subjects has helped me to substantially enhance the knowledge I already had from my previous degree. Furthermore, it has taught me new topics and skills such as e-commerce, e-business, international business strategy, SEO, and Information Systems Modeling.
The first thing that had a huge impact on me was the website of the university. It is really user friendly. It has been developed and designed in a way that everybody can find what they are looking for easily. I was able to find a lot of useful information about the campus and its facilities in different areas such as sports. Meeting the university representative, its ambassador and taking the university language test in Tehran all made the process of my application very smooth and quick.
After I got my unconditional offer and came here, I found Sheffield a very beautiful and safe city. It is located at the heart of UK and it is easy to get to other cities such as Manchester or London.
During my study at the university I spend much of my time in the library which is called IC (Information Common). The IC´s primary objective is to deliver high quality IT-enabled study space and 24 hour access to heavily-used student materials. Demand for seats and books, is intense. As such, access is only given to staff and students of this university.
Most of the students´ spare time is filled with the university´s activities and programmes. The student union of the University of Sheffield has been recognised as the best one in the U.K. It offers so many activities that you will never get bored. Whatever taste you have there is always something for you to do here. I mostly spend my weekends with Give It A Go day trips and have seen many places so far.
More than 25000 students study at the university and everybody can get involved in the union´s activities.
At the University of Sheffield you will experience a real student life- Full of achievement and enjoyment!
