Venus Rabbani
Venus graduated from The University of Sheffield in 2011 with an MA in Urban Design.
I am currently studying an MA in Urban Design in the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Architecture and throughout my education I have pursued various interests, predominately photography. During my bachelors degree I became very interested in the problems of urban development, which, unfortunately, could not be tackled by my former field of study. Therefore I am seeking to broaden my artistic capabilities suitable to this delicate profession through the study of Western architecture.
I chose to study at the University of Sheffield for several reasons. The most important one is that Sheffield University is among the highest ranking universities in the world, and the School of Architecture has been ranked as the third top university in the UK according to the Times online 2010. Apart from the university ranking, facilities provided by the university and Student's Union are utterly enormous and our Student's Union is known as the best in the UK. It´s also been renovated recently and now has even more services to offer. There is a wide range of clubs and societies that you could all join and find people with a similar taste and style.
In terms of applying, I found the University of Sheffield easy, fast and cheap. I scanned all my documents including my architectural portfolio and simply attached them to my online application form. Nothing had to be printed out! Thus I saved loads of money which I could have spent on printing my portfolio, posting documents and translating several copies of my transcript. I could find every little detail regarding applying, life in Sheffield, accommodation and etc on the university web page.
As soon as you get into the city you´ll notice there is huge number of international students which would give you the impression that everyone is in the same situation as you are. This will help a lot coping with every aspect of your student life. Besides everyone from students to university staff are so helpful and cooperative that you wouldn´t feel lonesome for a moment. In another word, Sheffield is a lively city full of students, events and parties.
I aim to continue my studies to PhD level while gaining work experience in my field of study and I believe studying at the University of Sheffield, with its outstanding academic and research profile and prestigious global stage, will assist everyone towards achieving their goals and a desirable future career.
