Sonal's Web Diary
We have 2 days left till our phase 3b exams and I feel overwhelmed.
I have gone through my checklist of subjects and have managed to go through the basics of all the required specialities as well as last year’s work and general topics such as cardiology, respiratory medicine etc. At this moment in time I would just like to have the exams over and done with as I am filled to the brim with knowledge and don’t know how to fit any more information in.
The main problem with this examination, and the upcoming finals in May later this year, is that our knowledge needs to be cumulative. We must retain basic facts from our first year in medical school and build up through the years on these principles. Although the years are divided into ‘modules’ we are not tested just on the current years block of information. The exam criteria states that approximately 20% of questions are based on previous year’s knowledge. This year we also had A&E and General Practice modules. These two modules encompass a broad range of medicine thus in theory previous years work can be asked and integrated into questions with these two themes as their main basis technically making it this year’s work as well.
With only 2 days left I wish everyone the best of luck for our upcoming exams. The rest of the university students will be having examinations as well which can be spread over days or anytime over the next month up until February. Best of luck to everyone :)
