Sheffield's AMRC eye collaborations with companies from India

The University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing is mentioned as one of the companies in talks to strengthen their ties with businesses in India.
Some of the major companies in the UK, in the automotive, aerospace and nuclear manufacturing sectors are seeking possible JVs, tie-ups and collaborations with companies from India.
The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), a research centre dedicated to innovative metals processing technologies for the Auto, Aerospace and Nuclear technologies, is already in talks with several Indian companies.The AMRC with Boeing is a part of the University of Sheffield and the centre is a £100 million collaboration between world leaders in the aerospace supply chain, key Government offices and International academic institutions.
Mr. Joe Anwyl, Head of Business Development, South Yorkshire Advanced Manufacturing Development Team, remarked: "Manufacturing runs through the blood of India. Indian manufacturing, Indian products and Indian expertise are well respected in the UK. The reason why we are looking at India is we feel there is a strong potential for Anglo-Indian cooperation".
He also added that recently an Indian company bought a large UK based Forging, Oil and Gas and Mining company called David Malcom, and AMRC helped this company with technical expertise and consultancy to help the company increase productivity and yet keep the production in the UK. Similarly there are UK companies looking to come into India and AMRC provides consultancy to these companies too.
According to the British High Commission, India is the second largest investor in the UK and there are around 600 Indian companies in UK. There are around 500 UK companies in India. The trade between India and UK exceeded $12 bn in 2008. According to the Commission, after the US, the UK has the largest Aerospace sector with a turnover of £19.80 billion and an R&D investment of 2.7 billion. The UK is the 6th largest manufacturer in the world.
