£1.3m project follows University delegation to Singapore

A trade visit to Singapore by the University of Sheffield's Kroto Innovation Centre has paid major dividends.

Specialists from Singapore’s world leading semi-conductor cluster subsequently approached the University to use its world-leading facilities to manufacture bespoke semiconductor wafers. As a result, the University is currently processing one request to make wafers which could be worth £50,000 in the first instance and more from follow on sales.

Within a week of their return, the initial steps were being taken towards a £1.3 million collaborative project involving the University and contacts from Singapore.

The Sheffield delegation made such an impact that they have been invited to return to Singapore in November, to attend a gala dinner with the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong.
