Sonal's Web Diary

It has been more than a month since I got back to Sheffield and how time has flown!

While the rest of the university has had exams, we medics continued to have lectures. It was an interesting time for us as the rest of the University was very quiet and the only time I would see other people, besides medics, were those going to and from exams. However, while the campus seemed empty, the story in the libraries was quite the opposite. Every time I went in to print papers, the IC was always packed full of students studying away diligently or frantically.

As everyone else was studying for exams, we moved onto our final module of the year, Neurology. It is very frightening to think in 2 weeks my module will be over and that my 2nd year, lecture-wise, is over. This is because our schedule is completely different to the rest of the University’s in several ways. This year our Easter holiday starts and ends a week before everyone else’s. At the beginning of April we will be starting a 6 week research project, and immediately after are our exams!

Now the campus is buzzing again, not only because exams are over, but because of the upcoming Union Officer Elections. As a member of the Union Marketing ‘Buzz Team’ it is my job to help promote awareness of the elections, encouraging students to run for positions, as well as encouraging them to vote.

This year the students have proposed that the traditional roles of the officers be reviewed and modified to what they think may be better for the Union. Due to this referendum the election this year will be held in 2 parts.

The first part is currently underway with the President, International Students Officer and Education Officer being allowed to campaign. It is only these 3 positions in the first part because out of the 8 Union Officers these roles were not chosen to be changed. Currently these candidates are campaigning and promoting themselves to let the student body know who they are.

The candidates running have all posted messages about themselves so if you are interested in what the candidates have to say, have a look at:
