Sonal's Web Diary
For about the last week I have been exploring Tokyo and Kyoto with my friends. I have lived in Japan all my life but I had never been to Kyoto until about a week ago. Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan in the 1600’s until the capital was moved to Tokyo. Kyoto is a city which still retains much of the culture of Japan and has many temples, gardens and also the old Imperial Palace.
To make the most of our time we caught a shinkansen, bullet train, at 6:36 am to arrive in Kyoto for 9:20 am. Once we arrived we got a tourist map and a one-day bus pass and went exploring.
We visited famous temples such as Kinkakuji, the Temple of the Golden Pavillion which is actually covered in gold, Ginkakuji, the Temple of the Silver Pavillion, Ryoanji, the Temple of the Peaceful Dragon, famous for it’s rock garden and several other temples and famous districts.
After an exhausting 2 days in Kyoto we caught the shinkansen back home to Tokyo.
