Residential orientation programme
At Sheffield we offer a residential orientation programme to help you adjust to your new life here.
It is a five day residential programme which operates in September the week before Intro week. It is a great opportunity to make new friends, meet University staff and to find your way around the University and city centre. There is a small charge to participate in this programme.
Places must be booked in advance. All accommodation and most meals are provided.
Typical events include:
- day trips to the city and local areas
- talks on living and studying in Sheffield
- quizzes
- an information fair
- the opportunity to meet with staff from across the University
All students holding an offer of a place of study will be automatically sent more information about how to book a place on the Residential Orientation Programme before they start their course.

Discovery Week
Discovery Week offers a programme of social events and information sessions. You will have the chance to meet new people and get useful information about university life before Intro Week.
It will take place during the same week as the Residential Orientation. The key differences are:-
- It is free of charge
- It is non-residential (i.e. accommodation is not included)
- No need to book a place - you can arrive and take part in the events which you want to at any point during the Week
You will have the chance to find your way around campus and the city, before the busy Intro Week starts the following week.
