Fifty Years of the Information School.
It is our great pleasure to let you know that the Information School is fifty years old this year.
Founded in 1963 as the Postgraduate School of Librarianship, we were only the second University school of our kind in the UK. Later we changed our name to the Postgraduate School of Librarianship and Information Science, and later still to the Department of Information Studies. Three years ago we became the Information School.
From humble beginnings we have achieved continued success, leading the way in the information field: in research, we have attained the highest level in every national research assessment and conducting world-leading research on a range of information-related topics; and in teaching, we have pioneered innovative teaching programmes and trained high calibre graduates.
We would like to share our celebrations with you.
You are warmly invited to attend on Friday 27th September 2013 to help us commemorate this milestone and look forward to our next half a century leading the Information field.
We have planned this afternoon event to be fun and enjoyable, be a unique opportunity to reacquaint with fellow alumni, network and to provide food for thought, too, with a keynote address and lively and interesting debate.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the afternoon and we finish with a drinks reception.
