University Careers Service
The University of Sheffield offers a comprehensive Careers Service whose services are available to current undergraduate and postgraduate students, and also to University of Sheffield alumni. The University Careers Service maintains a website which covers a wide range of information about jobs, employers, vacancies, careers events, application and interview preparation etc. The University Careers Service Officer assigned to the Department of Information Studies is Linda Jackson.

Online Vacancy Database for Finalists and Graduates
An online vacancy service for University of Sheffield students and graduates. Once registered, you will be able to search for graduate job vacancies, work experience opportunities (including part-time term-time work), employer insight courses and an employer directory which includes information about employers who have links with the University of Sheffield Careers Service.
Student Jobs and Work Experience
Student Jobs and Work Experience assists students in accessing information and details about all types of work experience opportunities available to them during their time at University and to help them learn from the experience. Information is available concerning part-time, casual and temporary jobs during term time; course related project work; company internships and placements; sponsorship; vacation work; voluntary work; and insight days/courses.
Careers Events
Careers Events details current information about upcoming employer presentations, talks, skills training sessions and testing, as well as more general careers events held by the Careers Service each year such as the "Yorkshire Autumn Graduate Recruitment Fair" and "Work Experience Fair" in October and the "Careers Information Fair" in February. (Note the electronic version is only accessible to University of Sheffield students and staff).
Graduate Link
If you are interested in working in the local Yorkshire or Humberside region, The University of Sheffield Careers Service also offers the Graduate Link Service, which has been set up on behalf of the University and College Careers services in Yorkshire to promote graduate jobs in local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). It has new vacancies each week, in all areas including business and marketing, computing, engineering and many others. It also has a database of full information of over 2300 local employers, known to recruit graduates, which you can search through by industrial sector and area.
Gradzone - Sheffield Graduate Job Club
Sheffield Futures (not part of the University, but an independent charity formed from the merger of Sheffield Careers Guidance Services and Sheffield City Council's Youth Service) runs Gradzone, a programme to help unemployed graduates who have graduated within the last three years or so to find suitable work. It is located at: Star House, 43 Division Street, Sheffield, S1 4SL. Opening Times: Monday-Thursday 9am - 5pm. Friday 10am - 4.30pm. Telephone 0114 2494245 or 2812628.
The "Skills for Work Certificate" is designed to help you use your experience gained from work to demonstrate to future employers that you have the necessary skills to function in the workplace. It will also help you to learn more about yourself and your career options.
