Living in Sheffield

Firth Court

Sheffield is England's fourth-largest city, with all the comforts and facilities that one would expect from a large city. Yet it retains a unique atmosphere, hugely more welcoming and friendly would normally be associated with major cities. Sheffield enjoys a relatively low cost of living for students, and official statistics have showed for many years that Sheffield is one of the safest cities in the UK.

More than a third of the city lies inside the beautiful Peak District National Park, and the city is virtually surrounded by open countryside. It's also one of the greenest cities in England, with 175 woodlands, 75 public parks, and over 2 million trees.

The area contains an abundance of entertainment and cultural activities including award-winning theatres, museums and galleries, a variety of live music venues and nightclubs, and a range of spectator and participation sports. The attractive city centre is within walking distance of our campus and university life is very much integrated with the day-to-day life of the city.

The University of Sheffield has dedicated postgraduate accommodation, although the majority of our PGR students choose to live in private rented accommodation. Successful applicants will be sent information regarding by Accommodation and Campus Services once an offer has been accepted.

Peace Gardens

The University of Sheffield Students´ Union has been voted the best in the country, and has been completely refurbished this year. There are over 300 student-run societies and clubs, so whatever your interests you will be able to find other students who share your passion – and there are plenty of opportunities for you to try something new.
