Profile

I have a library background, and prior to joining the University I worked for seven years in Merseyside public libraries. During this time, I graduated from the University of Wales with an honours degree in Linguistics.

I joined the higher education sector when I moved to Sheffield in 2000, and began work at the University as a Course Administrator in the School of Health and Related Research, dealing with all aspects of teaching administration, including admissions, marketing, student progress, pastoral care and course development. During this time I undertook postgraduate study and gained an MEd in E-Learning from the University of Sheffield.

I joined the Information School in 2006 as Academic Support Officer, and took on responsibility for a number of staff and School administrative processes. In 2009 I was appointed Teaching and Learning Manager, with managerial responsibility for the School’s Teaching Support Team and teaching and learning administration.

Responsibilities

I work closely with the School Manager, Director of Learning and Teaching and Head of School on all matters related to teaching and learning administration, including student progress, timetabling, and quality assurance. I manage the School’s Teaching Support Team, who deal directly with assessment and student records.

My main responsibilities include:

  • Management of the Teaching Support Team, with oversight of the processing of assessments and student records.
  • Work with Teaching Committee on the development of School teaching-related policies, and maintain the School’s repository of teaching processes in the Staff Handbook.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on all aspects of communication between the School and the student body, including Student Staff Committee, Student Representation, Student Handbooks, evaluation of programmes, and the teaching timetable.
  • Provide advice to students and staff on regulatory matters and University processes related to teaching admin, programme development and student progress.
  • Plan and implement the School’s teaching timetable in liaison with all teaching staff, partner teaching departments and the University.
  • Administrate student evaluation of modules and programmes, including the collection and processing of data, communication of results to the School and development of the process.
  • Coordinate teaching-related events such as Intro Week, in collaboration with academic colleagues and University professional services.
