MA Journalism Studies Broadcast or Web

The Journalism Studies (Broadcast or Web) pathways are for those who do not wish to take the Law for Journalists or Power and Society modules. These concentrate on UK media law and local and national government, and may not be considered relevant for those intending to work outside the UK after completing the course.

These pathways allow optional modules to be substituted. It should be stressed that UK employers do require the law and government, as does the Broadcast Journalism Training Council, the accrediting professional body. The BJTC accredits the Broadcast Journalism pathway but not the Journalism Studies pathway.

Teaching Methods

The academic modules will be taught via lectures and seminars. The professional modules will employ a combination of lectures, group workshops, newsroom activity, court, council and locality reporting, individual and team projects.

The courses are intensive with professional practice modules requiring considerable time from students.

Assessment

Students will be assessed by essays, formal examinations, coursework, in-class tests, journalistic products, portfolios.
